About Cruising Knots

Cruising Knots is a free reference site that answers one question: how far has each cruise ship sailed in its lifetime? It lists ships from the major cruise lines, their classes, sizes and years in service, with a running total for the whole fleet.

How the numbers work

Miles are estimates. For each ship we take the routes it sails today, work out a typical number of nautical miles per day for those regions, and add that up across the days it has been in service. We account for the pandemic pause in 2020 to 2021 and for the slow restart after it. The totals recalculate every day.

Real life is messier: ships detour around storms, turn back for medical emergencies and change routes over the years. Treat every figure as a well-informed estimate, not an official record.

Photos and facts

Ship photos come from Wikimedia Commons and keep their photographers' credits and licenses, with a link back to the original on each ship page. Fun facts link to the articles they came from.

No live tracking

We do not show where ships are right now. Each ship page links out to the tracking sites that do.

Cruising Knots is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any cruise line. All ship and company names belong to their owners and are used only to identify the ships.
